CD Review | This One’s For Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark

This-Ones-For-Him-A-Tribute-to-Guy-Clark

“Let’s give her a good go, and make ol’ Guy proud of us.” With those words, Rodney Crowell launches into “That Old Time Feeling,” one of 30 Guy Clark tunes covered masterfully and lovingly by some of the top performers in the genre. Guy Clark’s songs have been covered by so many, and so often, that there was probably some discussion among those on this disc about who would sing what. Take “That Old Time Feeling,” for example: many people consider it a Jerry Jeff Walker classic. And JJW hasn’t been left out; he closes the collection with “My Favorite […] Read more »

Happy Holidays from everyone at Sundilla! Yes, we’re still here; if you haven’t thought of us recently, it’s probably because it seems like forever since we have had a concert. It feels like that to us, too, and makes us that more excited about the next one… which won’t be until January. But it’s coming, and will be here before you know it. The lack of recent concerts does not mean that there is no news. There are five BIG things we’d like to tell you about today. 2013 Sundilla Schedule Some people might already have picked up a copy […] Read more »

Susan Gibson | Friday, October 18

SusanGibson

This past few years have been a testament to the long-held assertion that Susan Gibson is a road warrior in the truest sense in addition to being a dedicated singer, songwriter, and performing musician. The CMA award-winning songwriter (the Dixie Chicks took the Gibson-penned “Wide Open Spaces” to the top for four weeks) has been hitting the road consistently over the past 14 years, touring nationally in support of her own brand of Texas-Americana-folk music. However, 2010 started off as the year where the road unexpectedly hit her back, when in February she suffered a severely broken arm, dislocated elbow, […] Read more »

Harpeth Rising | Friday, September 28

Harpeth4

Harpeth Rising is something new. Their sound, comprised of violin, banjo, cello and drums is both recognizable and undefinable. Jordana Greenberg (violin, vocals,) and Rebecca Reed-Lunn (banjo, vocals,) started the band as just a duo under the name Sisters Grimm, busking their way across the United States in the summer of 2007. They then spent a year on Maui, performing, writing songs and developing their sound. Within their short stay in Hawaii, they were featured in Maui Times, Maui News, Maui Weekly, and made numerous live recordings for Mana’o Radio. They returned to the Mainland in 2008, moving to Nashville, […] Read more »

Randall Bramblett | Friday, August 24

randall_bramblett_14

While Randall Bramblett might not be a household name, he is legendary within music circles for his songwriting and musicianship. He released a pair of acclaimed solo albums in the mid-’70s, then joined the jazz-rock outfit Sea Level, becoming their principal songwriter and vocalist. From there, Bramblett embarked on a path as a big-league, musical utility man (primarily sax and keys) and landed on the speed dial of some of the greatest names in rock history, including Traffic, Steve Winwood, Levon Helm and Bonnie Raitt. In fact, just a list of those who Randall has performed or recorded with is […] Read more »

CD Review | Dan Navarro with Stonehoney Live at McCabe’s

DanNavarroCD

This 2009 release held special significance for a couple of reasons. It was the first full-length CD to feature Stonehoney, a popular and successful country-rock quartet that had spent too much time on the road and too little in the studio. (That issue has since been rectified with the release of The Cedar Creek Sessions.) More importantly, it was the first solo CD by Dan Navarro. Poignantly, the concert that would become Dan Navarro with Stonehoney Live at McCabe’s took place just one week after the final performance by Lowen and Navarro. Lowen and Navarro were together for 22 years […] Read more »

Storyhill | Friday, June 1

Storyhill

Storyhill is a folk duo that brings infectious melodies, smart story songs and heartbreaking harmonies together in one perfect package. Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson grew up and started performing together as teenagers, while living in Bozeman, Montana. Both were musical from the get-go, singing with choirs, playing in bands and mastering many musical instruments—piano, guitar, trumpet, violin, harmonica, bass and accordion. Although their 7th grade world geography class is what ostensibly brought them together, it was their musical passions that made them close friends and lifelong musical collaborators. They recorded their first tape as Chris and Johnny in 1989, […] Read more »
